Horse gram, as the name goes, is fed to horses.I hear it is fed to other cattle also. However, we humans in the southern parts of India eat it too.We eat the sprouted version of it.This horse gram curry that i am going to tell you about turns out be be one of those simple curries that anybody can pull off.A few ingredients , not much work and tastes great.This comes from my mom’s storehouse of recipes off course.Lets get cooking.
What you need:
250 gms sprouted horse gram ( cooked )
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
1 tsp jeera /cumin seeds
2 tbsps coriander powder
1/2 tsp tumeric powder
1&1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 onion (finely chopped)
1/4 coconut (ground to a paste)
1-2 potatoes ( Quatered)
Step 1 : Grind the tomatoes ,cumin,ginger garlic paste, coriander powder, turmeric powder & chili powder to a paste.
Step 2 : In a hot pan, fry the onions till brown.
Step 3 : Add the ground paste to the browned onions and fry well.
Step 4 : Add the ground coconut paste & saute.
Step 5 : To the fried masala add the cooked gram & potatoes.Pressure cook till the potatoes are done.
Step 6 : Serve with hot steamed rice & papad.
